Aging 101 – A New Presentation Series

Several people have asked us, “What happens as we age?” and the answer is not a simple straight forward one. Thus, the idea of an Aging 101 presentation series was born. We will have speakers come from a variety of industries and agencies to help us sort out just what does happen as we age? That is an excellent question and one that we each ask ourselves at some point as we get closer to retirement, or wake up with a new ache. Heaven forbid, we lose our keys and start wondering if our memory is going!

We are inviting businesses in our community to present on their focus of what happens to us as we age. We expect to have people from a variety of companies and with focuses not just on health, but on finance, family issues, and FUN! Yes, having fun in our golden years is just as important as it has always been. There are folks out there ready to enhance how you have had fun or challenge you to try brand new exciting ideas.

We will be starting our series off with Janie Williams of Cornerstone Healthcare Services, who will talk about how we break down as we get older, and what options are available to put us back together again. She will be at The HUB on March 3rd, from 1:30-3:30.

Next, we fast forward to Kathleen Blanchette of Forest Funeral Home. While funerals are not the hot topic around the dinner table, there are excellent reasons to make plans now so that you can rest assured what you want to have happen at the end of your life is noted somewhere and your family is not left to stress and worry just what they should do. Kathleen will be here on March 24th, from 1:30-3:30.

In April, we will have Dr. Carrie Marcello of Your Forever Home to speak on Aging in Place. This is a concept of planning for your home to be a safe environment as you get older. Often times, we aren’t aware of changes that need to be made until we are already in need of a wider door for a wheelchair, higher toilets, etc. Carrie will talk about how she can customize your home for your needs on April 7th, from 1:30-3:30.

We will be contacting other businesses and adding speakers to the series as we go along. Currently, we are looking into topics such as fraud, elder abuse, insurance, diet, exercise, legal issues, and fun places to visit. If you have a topic you would like us to cover, we would love to hear about it!
